Shamiri Institute is a youth-led nonprofit organization dedicated to revolutionizing mental health care in Africa. Founded in 2018 at Harvard University by award-winning Kenyan entrepreneur Tom Osborn and mental health researcher Katherine Venturo-Conerly, Shamiri aims to make mental health support affordable, personalized, and integrated into community life. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, our mission is to enable youths to thrive through accessible and effective mental health interventions. To date, we have positively impacted over 10,000 youths in secondary schools across Kenya, leading to significant improvements in mental health, social relations, and academic performance.

About the Job Position: Social Media Intern
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Type: Internship

We are excited to announce an opening for a Social Media Intern. This role provides a unique opportunity to engage and grow our online community across various social media platforms, contributing to the broader mission of enhancing youth mental health.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Community Management: Monitor and respond to all direct messages (DMs) and comments on our social media feeds.
  2. Content Creation: Assist in creating and posting engaging content to boost audience interaction and attract new followers.
  3. Trend Awareness: Stay informed about online trends and ensure Shamiri Institute’s content aligns with our brand guidelines.
  4. Data Analysis: Regularly analyze social media metrics and gather audience feedback to share with the Communications team.
  5. Research: Conduct research to support team projects and strategy development.
  6. Strategy Development: Provide suggestions on how to grow our social media channels and enhance community engagement.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Proven ability to manage content creation and audience engagement on social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter) and LinkedIn.
  2. Experience in generating social media reports and analyzing performance metrics.
  3. Familiarity with online Kenyan communities (e.g., KOT) and current social media trends.

Skills:

  1. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  2. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  3. Creative thinking and the ability to generate new ideas.
  4. Proficiency in using social media management tools.

Languages:

  • Proficiency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of Swahili is an added advantage.

Eligibility and Selection:

  • Must be a recent graduate or currently pursuing a degree in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated passion for social media and mental health advocacy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
