Department: Division of Administrative Services (DAS), Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS)

We are seeking a talented and motivated Applications Development Intern to join our Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS) team at UNON. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in cloud computing, application development, and technical documentation within a dynamic and supportive environment.

Job Descriptions

Mission Statement for the Role:

Leverage cloud computing platforms to develop and test applications, ensuring they meet user requirements and function seamlessly.

Overall Responsibility:

Develop and maintain applications, conduct thorough testing, and produce comprehensive technical documentation to support UNON’s ICTS initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Requirements:

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) or a related field.
  2. Enrolled in the final academic year of a degree program in ICT or a related field.
  3. Completed at least three years of full-time studies towards an ICT degree or related degree in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages.

Preferred Skills:

  1. Cloud Computing Proficiency: Knowledge of platforms like AWS, Azure, or similar, including services such as compute, storage, and networking.
  2. Programming Skills: Familiarity with scripting languages such as .Net, Python, Java, and SQL.
  3. Application Development: Experience in developing applications based on user requirements and using modern development frameworks.
  4. Testing and Debugging: Strong skills in application testing, debugging, and resolving system bugs.
  5. Business Analysis: Ability to identify areas for improvement in business processes and articulate business user requirements effectively.
  6. Problem-solving: Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
  7. Collaboration and Communication: Excellent teamwork and communication skills to work with stakeholders and cross-functional teams.


  • Proficiency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of additional UN languages is an advantage.

Eligibility and Selection:

  • Applicants must be pursuing or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program in a related field.
  • No professional work experience is required, but relevant academic background is essential.

  1. Utilize cloud computing platforms and principles for application development.
  2. Create applications following validated user requirements and designated development platforms.
  3. Conduct application testing and address identified bugs to ensure only functional applications are deployed.
  4. Generate comprehensive technical documentation, including system requirements, job aids, user manuals, and ICT process guides.
  5. Identify opportunities to enhance business processes and define business user requirements.
